How to get back into the gig?

Thought some of you could shed some light on what is the best way to get back into playing and finding bands. I used to play where I live about 10 years ago. Until now circumstances stood in my way but due to a very cool wife and other things I now have the time. The only problem is where I live there is not much going on (North Carolina), of course I live not too far from Atlanta. Anyway, any suggestions you guys have on how to network and get my name out there would be great!!

Nothing talks more than actually playing and showing your wears.

I've always felt that showing up for the more "high end" open Jam nights was a good way to saturate yourself again into the local gigging community. And then, if you're people savy, you can schmooze, trade business cards and or e-mail addresses with people you meet. There's also a whole slew of on-line "musicians connection" websites now. I've met up with some interesting people that way too. And of course, just go to gigs of people that you enjoy listening to/playing their style of music and introduce yourself to the band on break. Tell them how much you like their playing and give them a card with your name and the instrument you play.

That's great advice from John, take note.

You could also try and making yourself a small website with some clips and/or videos, a bio, styles of music you play, contact phone/email etc and put adverts in your local paper which just say your a drummer available for gigs etc put your website adress on it too! Get to gigs, meet other musicians and form a band! Get out there man! I'm sure you can get back into it! Good luck
